Train More Nurses Act Reintroduced in the House

The Healthcare Workforce Coalition (HWC) applauds the reintroduction of the Train More Nurses Act (H.R. 5052) in the U.S. House of Representatives by Rep. Zachary Nunn (R-IA-03) and original cosponsors Rep. Susie Lee (D-NV-03) and Dina Titus (D-NV-01).

Previously endorsed by HWC, this legislation requires the Secretary of Health and Human Services and the Secretary of Labor to conduct a study and issue a subsequent report within one year of enactment on grant programs to support the nursing workforce. This report will include recommendations for changes to grant programs with the intent of:

  • Increasing nurse faculty
  • Providing pathways for nurses who have more than 10 years of clinical experience to become faculty at nursing schools
  • And encouraging and increasing the nursing pipeline through pathways for licensed practical nurses to become registered nurses.

The Train More Nurses Act was introduced in the U.S. Senate (S. 547) earlier this year by Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) and Susan Collins (R-ME).

HWC continues to advocate for this bill in both the House and Senate.
